F.Í. first built a mountain hut in Landmannalaugar in 1951, but the current hut dates back to 1969. It is situated at around 600 m above sea level, next to the Laugahraun lava field and right next to some popular hot springs, which are popular for bathing. The hut is two storeys high, with a large dormitory downstairs, a kitchen, a spacious living room and a storage room. Upstairs there are 3 sleeping lofts and a small attic room. In total, there is space for 75 people in beds and on mattresses. The hut is heated, but gas is used for cooking. There are pots and pans, clay pots and knives. In addition to the sleeping quarters, there is also a large washroom with showers and a water closet, and a storeroom and watchman's hut.
There are camping sites on the meadows near the hut. A hot, natural pool is only a short walk from the hut.
Next to the Laugahraun lava field. Gas for cooking, water, toilet, outdoor grill.
